Stress And Your Allergies!

We often think of stress as being an ever present feature of modern day life and of its energy sapping effects. We do not usually link stress and allergy.

But this is a mistake

Stress is a state of emergency in the body. It is a body-wide condition of arousal designed into the body to help it deal with emergencies. In a state of stress the immune system is reduced in its efficiency. This should not matter if the stress is only short lived. But if the stress is present frequently or permanently the immune system is reset to lower level of function. This makes it harder for the body to heal. And slower! And so one of the major goals of Natural Treatment for any health disorder is to support the immune system One way of aiding the immune system is to reduce the total burden on it. Natural Treatment depends on the idea of what is called “Total Body Burden”. All the problems the body has like viruses, moulds, allergic triggers, etc add up to a pattern of stress in the body that is brought out into the open by a new trigger. And if we reduce the onslaught of irritating factors hitting the body it can find the space and resources to heal. Just wearing sunglasses to protect your eyes from the pollen may help-or the goggles that swimmers use. An air filter in the home, getting rid of carpets or most difficult getting rid of pets! There will be some ways of reducing the Total Body burden you can do!

• vitamin C in the form of Ascorbic Acid and Bioflavenoids are an important part of helping the body. The anti-inflammatory action is useful in nearly every situation. Powders are best and can easily be mixed into a glass of water or some fruit juice to which you are not allergic! Its hard to talk about dosage without knowing your circumstances, which is why it is a good idea to see a Naturopath or Nutritionist. But the usual doses are about 5 grams per day. and this would be spread through the day in as many drinks as convenient

• Another crucial anti-oxident is vitamin E, usual dose is 400 to 800 i.u.

• Vitamin B also called vitamin B Complex helps to support the nervous system

• Medical Treatment with herbs can be helpful when the above has not given the help and relief you need. Herbs have to properly grown and picked and they also need to be organic i.e. unsprayed. Buying them from a reliable source is really important.

• The itching of the Nose may be relieved by using a little Aloe Vera to sooth the inflamed mucous lining. The use of some mild herbs such as Olive leaf, pepermint and butterbur can help with many allergies

• A few basic mineral to help are Calcium and Magnesium 400 to 800 mg

• Zinc as zinc citrate 20 to 30 mg

• Selenium 200 micrograms

• Lastly, many mild nervines can aid sleep. Example include chamomile, scullcap, Hops and oats.

Again it is best to do this with the aid of a good Nature Care Practitioner!
